Title: A Saint Among Savages
Description: London, Collins. 1980, First Edition. (ISBN: 0002167409). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Very Good+ unmarked copy with VG+ price clipped dustjacket. The book is about Rachel Saint, a missionary and the Auca Indians of the Amazon jungle in Eastern Ecuador. It tells far more than her missionary work but tells the story of a young girl who at 17 had a vision and how a primitive tribe grew to love her, it is a story of great courage in the face of terrifying danger. She knew that her brother and four companions had been killed by the tribe and that no white man nor Indian had ever made contact with them in their whole violent history, she knew that they had so little regard for life that they killed their wives and children on a casual whim. But she went fearlessly to live with them and taught them the meaning of love and how to live in peace. Map endpapers and numerous photographs by John Wright. 24. Very Good/Very Good.
