Description: London, The Sunday School Union. 1898, First Edition. Cloth, 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Ill.: Cowell, Sydney. Gilt and black titles with pictorials to spine and front on green cloth boards. Some minor marks to front, a little more to back, some wear to spine edges, head and tail and to corner tips. Pictorials however are still bright. Internally there is a coloured decorative prize bookplate to front pastedown and some foxing to back of frontispiece and to back of front endpaper and some age darkening to page edges. 190 pages and publisher's advertisements with 7 illustrations and illustrated chapter headings by Sydney Cowell and decorative first letters of each chapter. The novel centres on how Peter Endicott took part in the Duke of Monmouth's Rebellion and in the disastrous fight against the King's troops on Sedgemoor. The author (1859-1934) was a Victorian historical fiction author and father of the British American writer and artist Clare Leighton (1899-1989). A SCARCE TITLE A1C. Good/No Jacket.
