The first volume is one of 1200 copies for England, from a total edition of 2000, the second one of 1500 copies. A total of 48 fine portraits, printed by Emery Walker by Rothenstein. Subjects include Sir Edward Elgar, T. E. Lawrence, George Bernard Shaw, Max Beerbohm, Andre Gide, Thomas Hardy, H. G. Wells, Sir James Frazer, Joseph Conrad, Aldous Huxley, Siegfried Sassoon and Gustav Holst. Both volumes in publishers grey/blue paper covered boards with printed paper labels to the front panels. Cloth spines woith printed paper labels. Edges just a little bumped and rubbed but overall a very good pair.
