Elaborate gilt decoration to spine and corners of boards, within a triple ruled border. Centre ruled panel in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles. Blue coated endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine a bit darkened and rubbed. Boards with areas of darkening to top(where the book has sat on a shelf between shorter books). Overall a very good copy in a very good, highly attractive early binding. Herbert's great Scandinavian poem appears to have only been printed twice in his life-time, This first edition and a second printing of 1816.:
