Description: Hodder & Stoughton. London. ND (1914).. FIRST EDITION. 4to. (11.4 x 9.2 inches). Beautifully illustrated with 25 fine tipped in colour plates, each with a printed tissue guard. The colour plates are mounted onto thick cream paper within a triple ruled gilt and black border. Illustrated mono title page and 22 other fine, striking, mono illustrations thoughout the text. Chapter ends with decorative Peacock and hanging flowers design. Each page decorated with a line of fanned floral designs across the top and bottom of text. A small area of staining to the blank margins of 6 pages, otherwise a very good copy in a recent fine binding of full dark blue morocco, complete with both sets of the original illustrated endpapers bound in. Spine with raised bands. Compartments lettered and fully decorated in gilt. Floral gilt border on boards. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Original dark blue cloth spine and front board, both decorated and lettered in gilt, are bound in at the back of the book. Overall a lovely copy of this beautiful book. Among the very best of the early Twentieth century illustrated gift books.
