Title: THE BOTANICAL MAGAZINE. Or, Flower-Garden displayed: In wghich the most ornamental Foreign plants, cultivated in the open ground, the green house, and the stove, are accurately represented in their natural colours.
Description: Printed by Couchman and Fry, for W. Curtis. London. 1788 - 1806. Volumes 1 to 24, bound in 12 volumes. Later issue of the first volume, with the title page dated 1790. Beautifully illustrated with 966 fine hand coloured plates, a few folding. A handful of pages are browned but overall this is a lovely, clean and bright set. Finely bound in early 19th century full dark green straight grained morocco. Spines with raised bands, the compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Boards with double thin and single thick ruled borders in gilt. Board edges with decorative floral gilt roll. Decorative gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Early owners circular ink stamp to the blank endpapers and neat 20th century floral bookplate to each front pastedown endpaper. Spines just a little faded and some very minor rubbing to the extremities but overall a handsome and bright early run of this important work. ---- Due to a binders error the title pages for volumes 4, 5 and 6 are not bound in. The first three volumes, while all having two issues each, have only had the title pages for volumes 1, 2, and 3 bound in, incorrectly in the case of the second and third volumes, which include volumes 3 & 4, and 5 & 6. All of the other volumes have the correct 2 title pages in place.
