Title: WOOD ENGRAVINGS FROM LA VIDA BREVE.
Description: The Rocket Press, Blewbury, Oxfordshire. ND. 1991. SIGNED LIMITED EDITION. (9.2 x 6.3 inches). One of only 40 copies, numbered and signed by the artist on the colophon, this is copy number 5. A collection of 24 fine wood engravings by O'Connor printed from the original blocks, on hand made Zerkel paper, in blue, brick red, brown and green, each one either signed or initialled by O'Connor. The folded title and colophon pages and all 24 loose sheets are housed in a green paper chemise within a beige cloth covered portfolio folder with a green printed wood engraving to the front panel. A fine copy. ------ The engravings were originally commissioned by Hal Cheetham for his private printed volume entitled 'La Vida Breve' which was issued in 1991. O'Connor attended the Royal College of Art during the 1930's where his teachers included Eric Ravilious, John Nash and Robert Austin. Each of them influenced him, but it was from Ravilious that he learned his great love of wood engraving.
