These lectures were published shortly after Brown's death, and excited interest in both England and the United States. The popularity of this work continued for another twenty years, enjoying greater success than any philosophical work previously published, although they never had a great reputation on the Continent, where the sensational school thought he had not gone sufficiently far in analysis.
