Full title reads: "Die Smueliade : grotesk- komisches Heldengedicht nach dem Altspanischen des Don Pedro Meinolpho de las Pádras Mendoza in einige teutsche Reime gebracht von C.A.K.". A second title page reads: "Leben, Meinungen und Thaten vom seligen Smuel, dem Homö opathen und wie er als Doctor viel litt und verdarb, doch als Hofrath viel Ruhm und Moneten erwarb". ["'C. A.K.', the initials of Carl Arnold Kortum (1745-1824 ), the author of "Die Jobsiade," are adopted in this work apparently because it is written in the style of "Die Jobsiade" - from British Library catalogue]. ["Anton Karsch ...known as a medical doctor ( internist), an ecologist, a plant collector, a microbiologist, an early cell biologist, and an philosopher. Karsch, published in 1855, a work suggesting the role for intercellular space in plant tissue as the paths for spread of pathogenic microorganisms and also for cell-cell communication required for combatting the invading pathogenic microorganisms. It is also noteworthy that the entrance of air-borne spores of pathogenic fungus into the leafy tissue through the opening stomata which is recently studied by plant cell biologists, has been already described by Karsch" ... - Moritaka et al. in 'Bulletin du Centre Franco-Japonais d'Histoire des Sciences'].
