Description: San Francisco. Free Public Library. H. S. Crocker & Co. printers. 1889, 1st Edition. Hardcover. ix + 391 double column pages. Nubby gray blindstamped cloth. General signs of age but still a sound, intact and unmarked (NOT ex-library) copy. Collections added to the library in 1888 are sorted by both author and topic, together with shelf numbers given. Library staff from the Board of Trustees down to the Janitors are named. Introduction by John Vance Cheney explains the abbreviation system and says "One aim of this Supplementary catalogue has been to lay out the main lines of construction to be followed in the re-cataloging of the entire Library." The complete (rather harsh) set of library regulations is given (only one book checked out at a time, 5 cent per day fines, 2 week checkouts are subject to recall or the lending period may be shortened, All patrons must take door-check ticket from the door-keeper and return it on exit, etc. Very Good.
