Limited edition - One of the most famous art books on horses with descriptions by the veterinarian E.A.L. Quadekker and 41 chromo-lithographs after paintings by the celebrated Dutch animal painter Otto Eerelman (1839 - 1926). The chromolithographed plates were produced under supervision of the artist by J.L. Goffart. The plates approach the original oil-paintings. The lifelike images are wonderful, showing the thoroughbreds of the world, such as Turkish, Algerian, Russian, Belgian, the Gelderse, the Breton horse, Hungarian, and a Holstein, Andalusian, Arabian and Lipizzaner horses. Each plate is accompanied by an four-page description of the history, development, physics, breeding and training of the horse. Not dated. (1898) Portfolio slightly worn. Text pages and plates very well preseved. Plate 28; het Andalussische paard misses a part on top- and lower edge, both ca. 20mm. The original portfolio is in a very fine condition, the front- and backside near perfect, the three innerflaps slightly worn and carefully restored. It contains ten separate paper-portfolio's, each one with four lithographs and description of the depicted horses. Portfolio 10 contains five lithographs. Very Good.
