E.ps. lightly browned, original gilt lettered red cloth, sl. darkened to edges, price-clipped soiled and chipped d/w. with marginal loss, t.e.g. ¶ Inscribed to front free end paper ‘To Mum From Anthony Christmas 1945’ and ‘Anthony Blunt’. With the bookplate of Hilda V. Blunt (Hilda Violet Blunt née Master (1880–1969)). With the Times Literary Supplement review taped to pastedown, and the image used on the title page of said Supplement loosely inserted. Anthony was his mother's favourite, her 'Benjamin'. Years later she would tell people how as a very small boy he had been solicitous of her, always trying to carry her heavy luggage, and performing other small feats of gallantry. She coddled him. ‘My mother was very close to Anthony,’ Christopher Blunt later told an interviewer. ‘He was slightly delicate as a child but my mother exaggerated this and would give him tonics all the time.’
