Pittard, marbled e.ps., hinges taped, contemporary half calf with sl. rubbed marbled boards, rebacked in cloth with original sl. rubbed and chipped dec. gilt spine with leather title labels and gilt filleted raised bands laid down, a.e.red. ¶ Charles Pinney (1793-1867) Mayor of Bristol. D.N.B. ‘On 25 Oct Pinney was put on his trial in the court of king’s bench, charged with neglect of duty in his office as mayor of Bristol during the riots. After a trial lasting seven days the jury returned a verdict of not guilty, asserting that Pinney ‘acted according to the best of his judgement, with zeal and personal courage.’’
