Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ A murder mystery of the sensational kind which was the stock in trade of the author. The book was originally published as a triple decker the year before & then as a yellowback in 1890 ( this edition, but here rebound ). Braddon wrote the story between 12 October 1887 & March 28th 1889. Serial rights were sold to Sir William Leng of Sheffield for a sum in excess of £1,000 for use in his newspapers.
