In 1724 King George I granted a patent to William Wood for the manufacture of copper coinage which was to be introduced into Ireland. The scheme was not popular and Swift wrote his 'Drapier's Letters' series of pamphlets in protest. Contained in this volume are similar attacks on the coinage.
