In 1724 King George I granted a patent to William Wood for the manufacture of copper coinage which was to be introduced into Ireland. The scheme was not popular & Swift wrote his 'Drapier's Letters' series of pamphlets in protest. Contained in this volume are similar attacks on the coinage.
