Binders ticket of John Gray Edinburgh to the pastedown. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ The life of Francis Jeffrey, Lord Jeffrey [ 1773 - 1850 ] the Scottish judge & literary critic who spent some 26 years editing the influential 'Edinburgh Review'. The independent nature of the way in which the Review was written meant it was a leading organ of Whig opinion. The first volume contains the Life by life long friend of Jeffrey & frequent contributor to the Review, Henry Thomas Cockburn and the second volume extracts from Jeffrey's correspondence.
