Contemporary half calf over marbled boards, G+. 2 volumes, viii+395pp, [tp]+320pp, b/w frontis to each volume, 11 engraved plates in volume II ( 2 showing the Berceau du Roi de Rome & 9 containing 122 facsmilie signatures of French notables ), marbled endpapers, series half titles to both volumes, Ex Libris William Blair 24th Laird of Blair with his bookplate to the pastedown & signature ( dated 12th Oct 1827 at Angers ) to each title. Lightly foxed throughout with the occasional water stain, leather a little rubbed & the marbled boards likewise, leather split at the hinges but boards holding well, lettering pieces missing to volume I & chipped to volume II, but still an attractive copy. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Account of life at the Tuileries Palace from 1805 onwards when it became the residence of Napoleon. The book contains details on the redecoration of the Palace by Pierre Paul Prud'hon, including 2 plates showing the cot he designed for the birth of Napoleon II. William Blair [ 1782 - 1841 ] 24th Laird & onetime MP for Ayrshire. Presumably this book was purchased whilst abroad & then bound when back in Scotland. Blair Castle in Ayrshire had been in the continual possession of the Blair familiy until the Estate was sold in 2011.
