Modern cloth spined boards, G+. viii+306pp, 14 b/w copper plates of which 6 are folding, rather foxed throughout in particular to the plates as usual, offsetting to the text from the plates, one plate with a small split in one fold, ownership signature of Joseph H Hunt on the ist blank & title, Ex medical library ( Medical Society County of Kings ) with their small ink stamp to the title & verso of the plates, recently rebound in an attractive utilitarian binding, a nice copy. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Important & comprehensive work on female health & surgery which was the only published work of Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke [ 1782 - 1857 ]. Clarke was for many years surgeon to Queen Charlotte's Lying-in Hospital where he gathered the experience & understanding related in this book which was first published in 1814. In 1830 he was appointed physician to Queen Adelaide. On the work - 'the practical details are copious and valuable, and imply a considerable knowledge and familiarity with these subjects and constitute a valuable contribution to this department of the profession' ( Edinburgh Medical and Surgical Journal vol 12 1816 ).
