Title: A Daughter Of Heth
Description: Bernhard Tauchnitz, Leipzig, 1871, Copyright edition. Half calf, VG. 320+320pp, two volumes in one, leather rubbed somewhat at the edges, paper a little spotted, a good copy. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Tauchnitz edition, published the same year as the trade edition by Sampson Low & Marston. Considered Black's best work, the story is that of a young & spirited boy, son of a Presbyterian minister who lives on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. He falls for his cousin, a French girl who's disposition is at odds with the staunch Puritanism of the village. Black's gift for descriptive prose describes the Scottish scenery well.
