Spine with raised bands, stamped devices in black, lettered and ruled gilt. Alfred Leeman's armorial bookplate to paste-down. In very good condition. Clean and tight. A little normal scuffing to leading corners. Of his numerous other works the most important are: Varronianus (1844) and Jashar (1854). Others include; The Theatre of the Greeks; editions of the Odes of Pindar and the Antigone of Sophocles; a Hebrew and a Greek Grammar. "His bold views on the nature of inspiration, and his free handling of the sacred text (in Jashar), aroused the anger of the theologians".
