This edition is of particular interest with its introduction by the revolutionary Sergei Stepniak (Sergey Stepnyak-Kravchinsky). The translator Ethel Lilian Voynich née Boole, partner of Polish revolutionary and prominent London bibliophile and bookseller Wilfrid Voynich, was involved in pro-revolutionary activity in London and indeed learnt Russian from Stepniak.
