Original paper covers printed in red and black, 324pp. Spine heads chipped, paper peeling a little from spine head, lower corner chipped, usual yellowing of paper. However, clean and tight, one or two unobtrusive pencil marks, occasional pages as yet unopened. A very good copy of this first edition. Cover design by B. T. Ross'r(?). Used; Very Good Paris edition and first full version of 27 stories. Ivan Alekseevich Bunin was the first Russian to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature (1933). 'Temnye Allei' (stories characterised by dark, erotic liaisons and love affairs) comprising only 11 stories was published in New York in 1943. Translated as 'Dark Avenues and Other Stories' by Richard Hare 1949, and as 'Shadowed Paths', 1958 by Olga Shatse. Paperback.
