Original brown buckram stamped and lettered in black with gilt to upper board, 11cmx17cm, woodcut head and tail pieces, margins ruled, publisher's list to last page. Spine edges rather rubbed, spine ends worn, small scape to upper board, gathering loose inside, else a good copy. Collectable; Good John Hartley (1839-1915) was an English poet born in Halifax who wrote in the Yorkshire dialect. He wrote much prose and poetry, often of a sentimental nature, dealing with the poverty of the district. He also wrote a number of popular books featuring the character "Sammywell Grimes". Hardcover.
