Johan Åkerblad (1763-1819), Swedish diplomat and orientalist, was a student of Silvestre de Sacy. He is probably most famous for his contribution to the decipherment of the hieroglyphic script on the Rosetta Stone. During his last years in Rome he was mainly devoted to the studies of Greek epigraphy. Due to limited economical means he only published four small works in Rome, of which this is one. It is dedicated to his friend Andreas Italinsky and deals with the interpretation of a tombstone with Greek and Phoenician scripts. Includes also a Hebrew transcription. Rare.
