First editions except part one which is in third edition. Contemporary half calf on papercovered boards, rebacked with the original back preserved, rubbed. Bookplate. Light foxing to endpapers. A small hole on title page with loss of one letter. Comprises: Parts 1-5 devoted to Australia; part 6 to Mauritius and parts 7-10 to South Africa. Backhouse was a Quaker missionary who lived in South Africa during the years 1838-41. Ferguson 2434-7 & 2703-4.
