Binding rubbed. Occasionally some minor staining. First edition. This is a sketch manual with Ogata K›rin pattern as drawn by Aikawa Minwa. Ogata K›rin (1658-1716) was a famous Rinpa artist. The celebrated Rinpa style, a Japanese genre based on nature which originated in the early 17th century had a revival in the beginning of the 19th century. The typical K›rin patterns are characterised by simplified forms with prominent and smooth outlines. Aikawa Minwa, active 1806-21, is probably best known for his Manga hyaku-jo (Sketchbook of One Hundred Women 1814). Scarce. British Museum has a copy of this manual with slightly different title leaf but otherwise identical.
