Housed in a specially made decorated paper box.The Ogasawara School originated in the Kamakura period (12th century) and laid the foundations of etiquette for the samurai class in Japan. It specialised in teaching archery techniques and horse training. The school developed over centuries and from its rich past of warrior martial techniques the Ogasawara-ryű tradition of etiquette evolved. The etiquette teaches proper behaviour in different life situations and in ceremonial rituals, such as performing a bow, arrangements of banquets, serving manners, making gift boxes, wedding preparations, instructions for noshi, clothing and make-up, etc. etc. Mizushima Bokuya (1607-94) was a teacher of etiquette and his written Ogasawara work mainly circulated in manuscript form in the second half of the 17th century.
