Bindings shaken, some wormholes at the beginning of first volume, partly with some foxing.First edition. Dahomey was a West African kingdom (situated in today's Southern Benin) from the beginning of the 17th century up until 1904. Forbes, a British naval officer made two journeys to visit the Court of the King with the unsuccessful mission to convince him to end involvement in the slave trade. Forbes' journals include descriptions of the inhabitants, their customs, culture and vocabularies of the Vahie and Dahoman languages. Gay 2878.
