Library markings on front paste down. First edition of Cibot's letter dealing with Needham's Hypothesies on the resemblance of Chinese characters to Egyptian hieroglyphics. The preface is written by John Tuberville Needham which was previously published in the Philosophical Transactions. The first section includes an "Extrait du Journal des savans, sur Le Chou-King", published by J. de Guignes in 1770.
