Publisher's burgundy cloth, gilt, with gilt vignette of a camel caravan on the upper cover, spine faded. First American edition (first London 1874). This classic work by a celebrated African explorer is about an expedition in 1869, headed by Baker, with the aim to suppress the slave-trade in Central Africa. Baker was the first Englishman to undertake high office under the Egyptian government. A very good copy. Cf Blackmer 66.
