Description: . Tall 8vo. Pp. (xii), 64. With subscriber's leaf. The text is complete but without half title (with list of plates on verso). With nine lithograph plates, of which seven are beautifully coloured by hand. Some staining to the first few leaves. Contemporary full dice calf, neatly rebacked to match. Copy of Richard Gregory, with his armorial bookplate and his subscriber leaf. First edition of two Sinhalese poems dealing with demonolatry of Ceylon, translated by John Callaway, a missionary living there at the time. The striking illustrations of demons are made by native artists. As often the addendum with information about the Oriental Translation Fund (three pages) is not present.
