Description: . Pp. (vi), 195, (5). Without half-title. With wood engraved vignette on title, four sepia engraved plates and one hand-coloured aquatint. Some light offsetting from the plates. Contemporary half calf, flat spine ruled and lettered in gilt, upper joint weak, lightly rubbed, joints expertly restored. Faint traces of removed bookplate on front paste down. First edition. Robert Benson, a British judge and historian who accompanied a group of commissioners to Corsica with the aim to carry into effect the bequests of the Corsican patriot General Pasquale Paoli (1725-1807) who spent his last years in exile in Britain. Benson's account based on his own experiences describers the country and its culture, political history and language including specimens of Corsican poetry. Abbey Travel 76. Lowndes i, p.156.
