Description: New York, William Morrow, 1929. 1st. Hardcover. First printing. 575 pp. frontis ports. 13 photos, appendix, index, black cloth with gilt spine titles, blind-stamped decoration on front board. A very fresh copy with fresh boards (no fading, no staining), firm binding, no owner's name. Only flaws are light wear to some extremities and some yellowing of pages due to insertion of newsclippings. Included with the book is a treasure trove of contemporary clippings related to the revolt. Headlines include: Equity Approves Casting Fee Plan, Equity Defers Action on Ethel Barrymore, Stars Unveil Statues of Women of Stage, Requiem for Guild Actors, Producers to Meet with Equity Board, Letter from Frank Gillmore dated Nov. 6, 1929, Equity Rejects Plan for Sunday Shows, Briton's Onslaught on Our Poducers Brings Resentment in London. Managers and Authors Favor Sunday Shows; Actors Equity to Decide Issue on Nov. 18, Bessie Belmont debuts on Broadway, New York Times Drama Section (Sept. 7, 1930), Equity to Boycott Ticket Plan Rebels, $750,000 Lure by Films Failed, Equity Asserts, Producers Resent Rebuke by Equity. Also laid in: A promo leaflet for "Angna Enters in her Episodes and Compositions in Dance Form at the Booth Theatre." with dates and prices. Naturally the clippings are very fragile but are a wonderful resource and a very nice addition to the book. Very Good.
