Antwerp: de Jode, 1585. 4 copper engraved plates, measuring apprx. 30.5 by 22 cm, tipped onto sturdy 18th-cent. paper by folding over two edges of each plate, leaving 1-2 cm margins beyond the platemark. Fine series of plates, expertly displayed in all-archival hinged presentations mats, suitable for framing. Offered as a series only. Digital images available upon request. ¶ Complete series of four, late 16th-century engraved plates from Gerard De Jode's Thesaurus, depicting scenes from the life of King Solomon, including, of course, his famous decision between the two women who each claimed to be the mother of a single infant. Biblical quotations in Latin appear as captions below each illustration.
