Thomas MacKellar composed the copy for the specimens, which have become famous for their surreal humor; Bullen considered them the only specimens books which may be read with pleasure. Bullen,p.28, noting 'This is a specimen of the Ronaldson series. The text used is the opening of a biography of James Ronaldson written by Dr. Thomas MacKellar, with on alternate pages of poetry written by MacKellar.'
