Title perforated with Franklin Instiute mark, and with their bookplate noting the volume was donated by Stephen Greene. Very good. ¶ MacKellar, 'a name respected throughout the printing and type founding industry' (Annenberg) was successor to Binny & Ronaldson and was the parent company of the American Type Founders Co. Thomas MacKellar composed the copy for the specimens, which have become famous for their surreal humor; Bullen considered them the only specimens books which may be read with pleasure. Bullen,p.28, noting 'This is a specimen of the Ronaldson series. The text used is the opening of a biography of James Ronaldson written by Dr. Thomas MacKellar, with on alternate pages of poetry written by MacKellar.'
