Title: Watercolour C. 1830 - Loch Lomond Steamer - Original - with Loch Lomond Passenger Steamers 1818-1989
Description: , 0. . Original watercolour of Loch Lomond with an early paddle steamer and a fishing cobble. Not titled as Loch Lomond but the outline of the hills is absolutely consistent with the steel engraving in Beattie's Scotland Illustrated 1838 print by Allom and Bartlett titled the Head of Loch Lomond looking South which shows an early steamer and a fishing boat. Is this a preliminary sketch for that engraving? Signed E.Tils? The steamer could be The Marion or The Lady of the Lake which were owned about 1825 by rival companies.Further investigation required. The watercolour measures 18 x13 3/4 ( 47x35cms). It is browned with some light foxing and is mounted on card. With the watercolour are included Alan Brown's Loch Lomond Passenger Steamers 1818-1089, the definitive work on the subject and an A4 Photograph of the Beattie Print.
