Title: Our Breton Friends. A Short Account of a Visit to Ushant and Molene, After the Loss of the Drummond Castle in June, 1896
Description: Printed for Private Circulation, 1896. Hardcover. The Drummond, Castle was lost off Ushant on the night of the 16th June 1896. Two hundred and forty-nine souls were on board, out of whom only three were saved ; fifty-nine bodies were recovered and buried. Queen Victoria bestowed medals on several of the Breton people for their services in burying the dead, &c. There are several illustrations, one depicting the funeral of the victims, June 19th, and another the three survivors. The Drummond Castle was an intermediate steamer of the Castle Line, and sailed from Cape Town nearly three weeks before the disaster.:41p; black and white frontispiece with tissue guard, and further monochrome photos throughout. Cream cloth with elaborate gilt border, title and decoration to front board. The book is sumptuosly poduced with al edges gilt. The fine silk binding is howver evenly foxed; internallt it is VG+ wiyth np marks or signatures apart from a few light thumb marks at the bottom of a few pages. Uncommon. See scsns . Very Good
