Title: A Plan of the City and Suburbs of Bristol - an Early Hand Coloured Plan with Key. 1764
Description: J Cheevers (Sculp), 1764. . A neat original plan with ? original hand colouring of the city and Suburbs of Bristol . Measures 5 3/4 x 4 3/4 (14.5 x 12 cms). With a key recognising Churches, Halls etc, Squares and streets. J.Cheevers Sculp. In good clean condition - lightly and evenly toned and tipped onto an amateur mount. Handwritten note on rear of mount - Andrew Drury c.1769 after John Roque - Rocque produced a four sheet plan of Bristol in 1743 which was published as in a single sheet in 1751. This would seem to be a reduced version of that map without views in the margins. Handwritten on the mount is the date 1769 - but probably later - 1764 (from the Transactions of the Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society, Volume 48-49 1927). See scans . . Very Good
