Folding charts and tables but almost all text devoted to reports of witnesses - 10,000 individual paragraphs reporting their replies to questions. e.g. from evidence offered by Mrs.C.S.Edwards (Matron of Lambeth Workhouse) - in relation to mental work or stimulus for Workhouse Inmates - Q. Supposing you made their tea depend on their doing a certain number of sums -- A I daresay they would try to do them, but whether they would succeed is another matter. Q. And do you not think that either by making the thing attractive by magic lanterns or somthing like that, or, on the other hand, by taking away their tea unless they did sums or learnt a bit of poetry off by heart.. Covers evidence from Workhouse Matrons, District Medical Officers, Clerks to boards of Guardians etc to many London Burghs - West Ham, Edmonton, Fulham, Stepney, Greenwich, Bethnal Green, Holborn,St.Pancras and etc Some damage to top of first few leaves near spine not affecting text. .
