Ebenezer Sibly 1751-1799, although a trained physician, felt science alone was insufficient in explaining the human condition and studied astrology, alchemy, mesmerism, freemasonry and natural magic. In 1785 he wrote A New and Complete Illustration of the Celestial Science of Astrology and in 1789 was involved in the illustrated edition of Culpeper's Herbal.
