Title: Sex, Death, and Fly-Fishing. {Inscribed by John Gierach to Judith and Jim Bowman, She The Uncaged Woman}.
Description: First Edition. New York. Simon & Schuster. 1990. First Edition, First Printing. Octavo (8 x 6). 238 pp. Text vignettes. This is John Gierach's fifth angling title and it's the most difficult of his books to acquire in the first printing. Inscribed and signed by John Gierach to Judith and Jim Bowman - for many years Judy Bowman was the proprietor of Judith Bowman Books in New York state. She fancied herself as "The Uncaged Woman;" the quote had its origin from Eugene McCarthy’s Familiar Fish: "Every healthy boy, every right-minded man, and every uncaged woman, feels at one time or another, and maybe at all times, the impulse to go a fishing." There’s a signed photo showing Judith and John at the T.G.F Annual Day in March 1991. Simon & Schuster published only a small number of copies of the first before immediately issuing second and subsequent printings. By the way, the word "Sex" in the title refers to the brief time at twilight when mayflies mate momentarily over water, then perish (if you find that titillating, you’re probably a healthy fly fisher person). The book is bound in blue cloth spine over green boards with silver titles. Pictorial dust jacket. An attractive book. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Signed by Author.
