Title: The Way of a Trout With a Fly. And Some Further Studies in Minor Tactics.
Description: First Edition. London. A. & C. Black, Ltd. 1921. First Edition. Octavo (9 x 6). xvi, 259 pp. plus a one page, entertaining advertisement for Amadou. Photo frontispiece showing ten variations of the blue dun fly. Three additional plates, two of which are colored showing how Mr. Skues dressed his nymphs. The book firmly established Mr.Skues and his methods as the preeminent modus operandi in early twentieth century fly fishing. His nymph patterns generally out-fished dry flies, and his book started and continued a long, bitter feud with the Head Honcho of the dry fly, Frederic Halford and his followers, who wouldn’t budge from the conviction that floating flies always ruled the day. The book is now a 100 years on since its publication, and Mr. Skues is remembered as a visionary. The book is bound in olive-brown cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Pictorial dust jacket (the jacket is from the second printing). There’s just a touch of edge wear to the cloth and light, occasional foxing on the half-title page. The book is bright, very good, in a good dust jacket with edge wear.
