Title: Frank Forester's Fish and Fishing of the United States and British Provinces of North America.
Description: London. Richard Bentley (Publisher in Ordinary to Her Majesty). 1849. First Edition. Octavo (9 x 6). xvi, [1], 2-455 pp. including appendices. Black and white plates with tissue guards, one showing the head of a ferocious looking pike. Woodcuts throughout the book, of fish, angling scenes, and pleasant natural settings. Mr. Herbert includes chapters on nearly every North American game fish along with recommendations on how to angle for them: trout, salmon, carp, bream, shad, pike, bass, and a host of salt water fishes. Tackle is covered in brief as is fly fishing. The book is elegantly bound in red morocco spine with gilt rules over raised hubs, gilt ruled compartments with gilt titles, morocco corners, and marbled boards. Marbled end sheets. Top edge gilt. A handsome book. About fine with just a touch of rubbing at the corners.
