Vol. 1: xxvii, [2], 3-313 pp. Vol 2: xi, [2], 3-368 pp. including index. With Dr. Frank Johnson’s signed business card laid-in presenting the set. Color frontispiece showing an Atlantic salmon in volume one, and a portrait frontis of Dr. Frank M. Johnson in volume two. There are beautiful color plates showing Atlantic salmon, trout, and bass flies with descriptive tissue guards, and a large number of color plates with tissues showing various species of game fish, plus a multitude of black and white and sepia toned plates also showing large numbers of game fish, all with descriptive tissues. Facsimile signatures of the contributing authors (including Charles Orvis, Eugene McCarthy, J. D. Quackenbos, Edward Everett, and several others. Text vignettes and illustrations. The text sheets were printed on hand made paper. The two volumes are bound in their original olive suede leather bindings with hand colored salmon flies and embossed design on the front cover of each volume. Checkered gilt-inner dentelles, moire silk end leaves with a green floral vignette and doublures, untrimmed. With the original suede straps surrounding each volume (the strap for volume two is cleanly separated but present). The books are in the original publisher’s two-part boxes (each volume with its own box; edge-wear to the boxes, with the top lid of volume two not present). This set is unopened. A beautiful set of attractive books with the scarce suede leather straps and in the rarely seen publisher’s boxes. Near fine.
