Title: The Art of the Classic Salmon Fly. {Signed by Ken Sawada}.
Description: Kodansha, Otowa. Published by Kodansha Ltd. 1989. First Edition. One of 1500 copies published. Folio (14 ½ x 10 ½ inches). 198 pp. Signed by Ken Sawada on the front end sheet. Introductions by James L. Hardy and Alan Bramley. The text is in English and Japanese and includes the history of Atlantic salmon flies, the Golden Age and its development, and concludes with commentary on the colored plates. With 500 breathtaking, larger than life color photos showing quintessential salmon patterns dressed by Ken Sawada. A good number of the flies shown were originally dressed by late nineteenth and early twentieth century masters of the craft, as well as a large number originated and dressed by Ken Sawada. Several of the patterns shown are full-page. Complete with tying instructions. I can’t get away from the colored plates and photos: they’re mind-blowing beautiful - stunning, sharp, the ultimate eye candy for anyone who loves featherwing salmon flies; there's nothing to compare them to, and no book of its equal. Mr. Sawada’s skill in dressing the patterns is unequaled. The book is bound in black velvet with a color chromatic titling label on the spine and gilt titles on a black leather oval on the front cover. In a matching black cloth slip case with large colored salmon flies on both panels. A beautiful book. The book is fine in a fine slip case and printed protective cardboard sleeve.
