Title: Trout. {Signed by Ray Bergman}.
Description: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Penn Publishing Company. 1939 [1938]. Signed by Ray Bergman on the half-title page. First Edition, Third Printing. The first printing was published in November 1938 and this third printing published in January 1939. Thick octavo (8 x 6). 452 pp. including descriptions of flies shown in color plates. Photo frontispiece showing Ray Bergman at his fly dressing bench. A multitude of color plates showing artificial trout flies of nearly every description: dries, wets (hundreds of them), nymphs, streamers and bucktails, steelhead and land locked salmon flies. Text drawings. Eight decades have passed since its initial publication, and Bergman’s Trout remains a basic source book for elegance and courtesy on trout waters. The book is bound in brown cloth with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. Decorated end papers. Pictorial dust jacket. The book is bright and very good with a previous owner’s bookplate on the front end paper. The dust jacket is poor, with chips, fraying, old mends, but with one bright spot, and that’s the original $5.00 price on the front flap; but it’s just plain tired. Signed by Author.
