Title: "AN EXTENSIVE WOODED LANDSCAPE WITH FIGURES BY A FORD" (Oil on Canvas)
Description: 1757. No Binding, 41cm x 53,3cm. Peinture, Oil on Canvas. Condition Report: The canvas has been relined, and does not appear to have suffered any major damages. The paint surface, which been quite recently cleaned and varnished, is in very good condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a couple of dots of retouching. Signed and dated lower left: Vollerdt. fe. 1757. // Johann Christian Vollerdt specialized in tasteful pastiches of painters of the century of Rembrandt. He was the pupil of Alexander Thiele and studied the colouring of the Dutch masters of the previous century in the collections of the Electoral Gallery in Dresden. His first works were mostly inspired by Griffier; for instance, "View on the Border of the Rhine" (Bordeaux, Musée des Beaux-Arts, n. 156). He worked mostly in the Northern Germany and was given numerous commissions by Prussian and Saxon art lovers. Among his most interesting landscapes are those at the Museo Civico Correr in Venice and at the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden. HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTO AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. Very good condition.
