Description: London. Printed for W. Strahan, J.F. And C. Rivington & Al. 1779, Fifth Edition. Leather, 14cm x 22cm. Livre, FIFTH EDITION (1794), carefully corrected, and continued to the present Time. The Supplement is a first edition and was published in 1784. Library copies with a bookplate on pastedown, a stamp on the back of title page, marking and tape on spine (see photo). Rebacked, conserving original boards. Covers are rubbed at the corners. Some contemporary markings in the margins. otherwise the inside pages are in very good condition and tight. Vol I: Title Pages - [vi] - 456 pages - (24p), 16 plates; Vol. II: Title Page - 528 pages - (24p), 11 plates; Vol III: Title Page - 427 pages - (26p), 20 plates; Vol IV: Title Page - 431 pages - (24p), 27 plates; Vol V: Title Page - 495 pages - (30p), 31 plates (plate 86 was bound after p. 352 instead of p. 180); Vol VI: Title Page - 423 pages - (24p), 24 plates; Vol VII: Title Page - 459 pages - (24p), 32 plates; Vol VIII: Title Page - 452 - (30p) - (1ff), 32 plates (2 plates 192, one is 192 and the other is 192); Supplement: Title Pages - [p. iii-xvi] - 435 pages - (9p), 34 plates. Total: 227 engraved coats of arms - COMPLETE but without plate #16 that is missing from volume I as it is often the case. This plate represented the armorial of Douglas Duke of Dover and Queensberry. However, the title became extinct upon the death of the 2nd Duke of Dover in 1778 (just before the publication of the books). So it was removed from the books but a few copies may exist in some books. Photos available upon request. Heavy set, 8kg. Good condition.
