Neatly rebacked in morocco to style, back with five raised bands, second and third compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, other compartments ruled in blind. With the early nineteenth-century engraved armorial bookplate of Thomas Maitland, Lord Dundrennan (1792-1851), eminent Scottish judge and bibliophile, studied at Edinburgh before being called to the Scottish bar in 1813. He served as Solicitor-General from 1840-41 and again from 1846-50. In 1845 he was elected MP for Kirkcudbrightshire which post he relinquished in 1850 on his ennoblement as Lord Dundennan. A keen student of antiquarian literature, he amassed a fine library which was sold at auction on his death in 1851. "George Gordon Noel Byron, 6. Baron Byron (geb. 22.
